Anime Genesis

The First And The Last Word On Anime

odin sphere oh where to start

odin sphere is a side scrolling action game with some rpg elements.
now some of you out there might be thinking "xephon a 2D side scoller in this day and age, that crazy!"

though these kinds of games are far from dead in japan, we dont see to many of these games state side but thanks to Atlus picking up were the dead working designs left off we are treated to this wonderful and very beautiful game.

now as the name suggests the story is told around Norse mythology. you start off the game as the beautiful valkyrie Gwendolyn princess of Ragnanival in the north and daughter of demon lord Odin. gwendolyn is a troubled girl whos only wish is to make her father proud. as you play threw her story there are many twist turns action and romance. it took me
12 hours to play threw her story and she's only one of 5 characters you can play and all the different characters storys intertwine in some way or another.

gameplay is pretty striate forward run right or left hack slash pickup food, fight the area boss and move on. the food in this game is where the rpg element kicks in. u eat different foods to gain levels and power. there's also a bit of alchemy for u chemist out there. each character has the a different kind of weapon and fighting still. form swords to spires to cross bow to chains.

there wasnt much i found wrong with this game. the one big one was the inability to pick witch character you want to play when. you can only us Gwendolyn at first and have to unlock each other character one by one.
i wanted to to play as Oswald the shadow Knight dammit! he's just so bad ass. and the other is frame rate problems. yes even though its laking a dimension there's so munch detail in every aspect of this game that when the heat is on and battles get crazy the game can start to lag. there was only one part where it really got bad, but its not enough to damn this game for it.

the voice acting was very well done, and some of u anime dub fans might recognize a few voices here and there. but dont fret purist fans u can switch to the original japanese dialog.

over all i thought this was a beautiful and fantastic game well worth the $30 or 40 it cost (i cant remember witch)

so i give Odin sphere for the PS2 a BUY NOW

[note:]
my rating system witch was barrowed/adapted from another podcast >_>

4/buy now=great game everyone should try
3/crackers= not great but not bad just right, just like crackers
2/game fly it = run of the mill game not worth a purchase but good for a rent
1/burn it = just walk away and dont look back and if someone give's it to u! light the bitch on fire and by bitch i mean the game. not the person who gave it to u, thats just not cake.
